TVL v Leamington
Leamington were the first visitors to Moreton for the Thames Valley league this season. Morrissey and Gil got the visitors off to a great start in the 30s rubber with a 2 sets thrashing of Pettiford and Moreton's ex-Assistant pro Nick Jury 1-6, 3-6.
The second, 60 handicap, rubber saw Lewis and Savage restore the balance for the home team easing past Rollason and Kirwin 6-3, 6-3.
The 40s rubber saw Beechener and Leefe take on Bryan and Brennan for Leamington. The hone pair made a poor start losing the first set 6-4 before finding form and taking the second set without a conceding a game. The good form continued into the third set with the home side taking a quick 4-2 advantage inexplicably collapsing and losing 4-6.
Paxton and Branfield were left the task of levelling the tie against Billson and Horrocks for the visitors in the 50s handicap rubber. They took the first set 6-3 and then lost the second by the same margin taking the rubber into a deciding set. Finding form again they raced to a 4-1 lead and conscious of the potential embarrassment victory from such a position may have caused their team mates from the previous match they too collapsed (inexplicably) going down 4-6 but at least sparing Beechener and Leefe's blushes.
Final Score: MMTCC 1-3 LTCC
